On April 19th, the United Federation of Fil-Am Educators (UNIFFIED) Inc. celebrated its first founding anniversary by recognizing the exemplary service of teachers in an awarding ceremony held at the NYU Palladium in Manhattan.
More than 150 educators received awards in four different categories: Special Awards, Gawad Lampara, Gawad Lingkod, and Gawad Sinagtala. This year’s recipient of the Gawad Lampara Awards is PACCAL Founder Linda Mayo.
Special awards recipients were Marietta Geraldino, Aristides Uy, Pancho Bernaldez, Ronie Mataquel, and Marvin Cadornigara.
Present during the awarding ceremony were Ambassador Mario de Leon Jr., Madame Eleonor de Leon, and the three Makilala TV hosts – Cristina DC Pastor, Jen Furer, and Rachelle Ocampo.
The Inflection Point congratulates the officers and members of the UNIFFIED, led by its indefatigable Founding Chair, Lumen Castaneda, President Ronnie Mataquel, and NY Chapter Chair Jonathan Demol.

Congratulations to Filipinos who, through their sweat and persevering efforts, have made a difference in their lives and for the lives of those they work with particularly in the field of Education. Indeed, you are missionaries in your own worth, forming people, developing values and changing the world through the life of your students. I am an educator and missionary and I know that just being me, I have, I guess, touched your life in the most subtle way, and I am glad and proud to say that as you received the many awards coming your way, I also felt awarded not by a plaque where achievements are etched there forever but by the very person that you are…a living award, more to give, more to share, more awards in the lives of others..
