Pain after Pain
by Marites Avisado-Responte
If we could just live without pain
We could be spotless but plain
If life is perfectly paved and we find no offender
We’ll come out unscathed, but no character.
Though brokenness pierces woes
Tougher we become, as pain blows.
Though the wound stings and scars us to be bitter
Forgiveness sprouts from a humble surrender.
Bruises, we bear
Weakness, we bare
Undaunted spirit, we dare…
For the heart roars with poetry when it hits a turning point…

Very true, pain can make turn our hearts to stone. But, surrendering, like water, can break through a stone heart.
